This is #6, our local alpha bull elk. I think he likes to pose for the camera.

still life…and as simply as a friend who leaves without a word – the home seems to large, to empty; the world at large to quiet, the day just a little longer than you would like; all else a bit flat – what was in still life.

I do like overcast lighting.

24 December 08

overcast
The kind of diffuse lighting and hot spring activity that makes for this particular kind of shot have always caught my eye, I don’t know if that actually makes them good shots or not, but I’ve always liked them.
In the end it’s the visual environment that makes this my favorite time of the year in Yellowstone – New Snow! New Mood!

King of the Lawn.

28 November 08

lawn art Most recent favorite in the lawn art category. The lawn art hobby is likely to get me in nearly as much trouble as the Yellowstone wildlife photo efforts. Trying to get that perfect shot, from just the right angle, is causing me to disregard what would otherwise be common sense on occasion.
Someone is just going to up and shot the perv stumbling around on the lawn without an invite.
Still brighter than sticking my flashy thingy in a Bison’s face, however!

low – wide,
like distant drums in the night,
 so quietly the thunder rolls!
