Tops & Flops

Mozilla 1.7
Tops in my book: I am still working on Thunderbird, but me and email never did get along. I bought the subscription with the guidebook and CD, the combination is worth every penny.

Mozilla Firefox
Tops all around: Firefox came with my Mozilla CD, it is sleek, fast, and predictable; considering the available plugins and themes, I think I am home to stay.

WebDrive Ver 6.03
Tops: I bought WebDrive as a replacement for Windows WebDav. For anyone hosted on TextDrive (shameless plug) running WindowsXP, it gets you around the extra signon mucking around. I used WebDav thru FrontPage and Network Places, and both are slow and klunky in comparison to WebDrive. It handles both my FTP and sFTP sites smoothly and seamlessly. As for up… I wish I had more thumbs.

The Gimp 2
Tops: For a free download it seems very capable, for those of you looking for liquid shadow and background gradient sources for layouts The Gimp 2 has a great many options and filters. It seems as well to be devoid of that abandoned project software feel that you get with some freeware. I’m still watching it, but so far so good.

AceFTP 3 Pro AceHTML 6 Pro
Flop: This turn of the corner isn’t to the same standard that I am used to with Visicom. I have been using the freeware version of AceFTP ever since I moved to a windows platform, and it has always been great to me. I tried the Pro version bundle for AceFTP and AceHTML out of loyalty for long freeware use.
I am finding that the Pro version isn’t really much of an upgrade. It is becoming more difficult for me to make sense of as designs move forward, and unless I am just confused, it is crashing at some very significant points in the network processes under Windows XP.
I’m not much on paying for an opprtunity to be confused by software when I can make perfect sense of the task at hand with another program. Just a little disappointed.
